Who: Geocachers over 10 years of age; newbies, oldies, all experience levels invited!
What: We will be picking up litter along Randall Road between Miller Road and Ackman Road in Lake in the Hills. This is about a mile stretch in one direction. We will be focusing on the east side of the road this time. There is a lot of trash caught in the prairie plants of LITH Fen!
When: 1 pm - 3 pm, Sunday, April 24
Where: I have permission to meet in the parking lot for Hope Church (posted coordinates). Please carpool if you can.
Why: To “clean up our playing field” as they say.
Good to Know: Trash bags, litter pickers, and safety vests are provided! I will also have some water on hand. Please dress appropriately. Wear long pants and boots. Make sure you're warm enough. You may also want to bring work gloves.
Because it’s a highway clean-up there are certain rules and precautions we must take. Below are the ones I’d like to highlight:
- All participants must participate in a safety meeting prior to the clean-up (this is part of the event).
- All participants must fill out a waiver indicating they understand the risks involved in highway clean-up. I will have copies with me for those that haven't filled one out yet.
- All participants should wear safety vests. They will be provided, but you may bring your own if you have one.
- You must be 10 years of age or older to participate. If you are between 10 - 18, then you must be accompanied by an adult.
- We will move together as a group and walk facing oncoming traffic.
- Please do not enter the roadway to pick up trash.
