  1. Ideal Toy Corporation was going to name it the Gordian Knot.
  2. It was invented in 1974 by Hungarian Erno Rubik a professor of interior design.
  3. After the invention, it took the inventor, Rubik, a month to solve the puzzle.
  4. Hungarian Zsa Zsa Gabor launched the Rubik’s Cube in America on May 5th, 1980.
  5. The most popular size was 3 X 3 X 3 cubes.
  6. 26 small cubes make up the most popular cube. The mechanism is where the middle, 27th cube would be located.
  7. It is estimated that over 350 million cubes have been sold making it the most popular toy of all times.
  8. There are 43 Quintillion combinations.  Written out it is 45,352,003,274,489,256,000.
  9. It takes at least 20 moves to solve the puzzle from any position.
  10. Matt Valk from the Netherlands holds the current solving record. He solved the puzzle in 5.55 seconds in March of 2013.
