A qualidade do vinho, que era feito na ilha do Faial antigamente, tinha a fama de ser muito mau, devido à ausência de açucar nas bagas.
Mesmo assim, exisitiam muitas vinhas na freguesia do Capelo e na área da Fajã, na Praia do Norte e Norte Pequeno.
Devido a diferentes circunstâncias, não sendo a erupção do Vulcão dos Capelinhos uma delas, muitos destas vinhas foram cobertas desde então, e a antiga “adega” (pequena casa onde as pessoas apanhavam as bagas e permaneciam lá durante a época de colheita) estão ainda lá e são usadas como casas de Verão/férias. Recentemente, começou um novo projecto com o intuito de recuperar a vinicultura na ilha do Faial.
Perto da antiga área de vinicultura na pequena vila do Norte Pequeno, existe uma, que devido à sua irregularidade de solo, era um desafio para os vinicultores, estando esta agora totalmente ao descoberto.
Ao visitar este lugar, dá a sensação de desolação. A costa é bruta e rugosa, mas existe um percurso perigoso para os pescadores locais, que têm que recorrer a cordas e escadas, para chegarem próximo do mar.
Depois de encontrar a cache, por favor passeie à volta do local e deixe a encosta deslumbrá-lo e aproveite a magnífica vista oferecida ao longo da linha costeira do Faial.

The Quality of the wine that was made on the island of Faial in the old days is said to be very bad, due to the lack of sugar in the grapes.
Yet there were many vineyards in the civil parish of Capelo and in the area of Fajã do Praia do Norte and Norte Pequeno.
Due to different circumstances, not in the least by the eruption of the Capelinhos Volcano, many of these vineyards have since been overgrown, the old “adega’s” (small houses where the people who picked the grapes stayed during the harvesting season) are still there and are now used as a summerhouse / holiday home.
Recently a new project has been started to bring the viniculture back to Faial island.
Close to the old area of viniculture in the small village of Norte Pequeno is an area where the ruggedness of the landscape that was a challenge for the old wine-growers is plainly visible.
Visiting this place gives you the feeling of complete desolation. The coast rough and rugged and there is a small and dangerous path where local fishermen go down with rope and ladder.
