Geocache Description:

An easy single offset multi-cache walk intended to introduce cache seekers to a small part of our neighborhood history and tour the grounds of a once substantial mid-20th century ranch estate.

Special cache update, 6 November 2005: Due to a seriously diseased eucalyptus that has made quite a mess of the a waypoint and the surrounding area, this waypoint has been eliminated as an intermediate stage. The cache is now a simple offset from the posted coordinates.

The posted coordinates represent your starting point - a parking area accessible 7x24. Note the 5-digit street address as you come in the driveway entrance. The address numbers are a, b, c, d, e. The cache is located at N 32 54.(2xc)76, W 117 06.e24.

Before heading for the calculated cache coordinates, we recommend you visit the Meanley Wall adjacent to the parking lot at N 32.54.658, W 117.06.248. It originally served as a foundation along the north side of the Mystery Ranch’s main structure. The large flat area to the southeast served as a stable for the owners.

This property has witnessed multiple preservation stands by our community since the original owners passed on and their heirs sold the property. Initial plans were for light commercial development that faltered. Next up were plans for a sizable retirement complex that was fended off through public debate a few years back. It is presently undergoing new reviews and possibly litigation in regard to more construction in the industrial park or building a new middle school.

The house and family are gone but reminders of the ranch period are still available to see on the grounds and inside a nearby structure. This remains a peaceful setting we hope you enjoy.

Container is a standard ammo box painted a cream color (NOT standard issue green). Initial contents include:

Striped Furby Buddy
Tommy (Rugrat) mini-pillow
Pokemon Meowth stuffed animal
Pokemon Mew pull-back toy
Pokemon Squirtle pull-back toy
Lizards
Snakes
Frogs
Historical materials
Log book and pens

Following are some questions you will be able to answer in the course of your tour:

What nearby community is named for this ranch (not vice versa)?
What was the name of the woman who, with her husband, presided over this ranch?
What was the husband’s name?
What were the unusual circumstances surrounding their marriage?
What was her favorite pastime?
How large was the house without the courtyard?
Who lived in Bedroom #6?
What is the name of the pond?

Answers to these questions are also available inside the nearby building during its open hours. Please do not post your answers to the website but feel free to email us if you like.
