Mimiwhangata Coastal Park is 48 km from Whangarei and 52 km from Russell (drive: 60 minutes).
The cache is hidden on a headland that overlooks Waikahoa Bay (site of DOC camp ground) and Mimiwhangata Beach. Only those staying at the camp ground can drive into this part of the park, with locked gates preventing car access.
Pa Point has formed steps, so make your way to the top, Admire the view, look along the coast to the Northern and Southern parts of Mimiwhangata, and on your left to Whangaruru and Cape Brett.
It is a beautiful spot to relax, nearby take a swim, surf, dive/snorkle, fish (restrictions apply) or just explore.
To drive here I recommend this route - leaving Whangarei on SH 1, turn right onto Russell Road, follow this road (ignore your car GPS if it tells you to turn onto Pigs Head Road, it is unsealed, narrow and winding), turn right at Helena Bay onto Webb Road. The road is unsealed from Teal Bay, drive past the Ngahau Bay turn-off, and take the next left onto Mimiwhangata Road, and eventually arrive at the carpark.
