Questa torre cattura la mia attenzione ogni volta che faccio in treno il tragitto Pisa-Lucca ed era un po' di tempo che avevo intenzione di metterci una cache. Il momento è arrivato! This tower catches my eye every time that i go to Lucca by train. I was willing to hide a cache there for long time. The moment has arrived!
UN PO' DI STORIA La "Torre dell'aquila" o "Torre segata" fa parte di un più ampio gruppo di fortificazioni situate nella zona attraversata dal confine tra Pisa e Lucca. Alcuni pilastri in pietra che ne segnavano la posizione sono tutt'ora presenti lungo la via che porta alla torre. La struttura, alta più di 20 m ed a pianta esagonale, è sopravvissuta solo dal lato lucchese; la leggenda vuole che i pisani abbiano demolito la parte di torre dalla loro parte del confine, pur di non condividerne il possesso con i vicini. SOME HISTORY The "Torre dell'aquila" o "Torre segata" is part of a bigger group of towers and castles in the area crossed by the borderline between of Pisa and Lucca territories. Some stone pillars that mark the border's position are still present on the way to the tower. The structure is higher than 20 m and has and hexagonal plant. Of it's original form, only half has survived (the one on Lucca's side); the legend says that the people of Pisa demolished their half rather than having to share the tower with their neighbours. COME ARRIVARE Ci sono vari modi per arrivare alla torre; una veloce ricerca su internet può darvi delle idee, ad esempio visitando questa pagina: http://www.comune.vecchiano.pi.it/turismo/escursioni/a-piedi-e-in-bici/ Noi abbiamo seguito il percorso per pigri, arrivando con la macchina più vicino possibile al sito (coordinate del parcheggio salvate tra i waypoint). Il percorso è agevole e necessita meno di mezz'ora per arrivare alla torre. Vi sono dei cartelli di proprietà privata, che è possibile attraversare a piedi. Le foto indicano il percorso da seguire ad ogni bivio che abbiamo incontrato, basta seguire Marco :D. HOW TO GET THERE There are many ways to reach the tower; a quick google search will give you some good ideas. An example: http://www.comune.vecchiano.pi.it/turismo/escursioni/a-piedi-e-in-bici/ We followed the lazy path, arriving with the car as near as possible to the tower. There are some private propriety's signs on the way but you can pass through them on foot. The photos show where to go at every crossroad we found, just follow Marco :D. LA CACHE La cache è un piccolo contenitore di plastica contenente matita e logbook, nascosto nei pressi della torre. THE CACHE The cache is a tiny plastic container hidden near the tower, with logbook and pencil inside.
