How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

This is the first installment of Talespin – A geocaching round robin. In this series, cachers will substitute the normal username/date log for something much more interesting. In this cache you will find a small, spiral bound notebook. When finding this cache, you get to add your part to an ongoing “round-robin” style story by writing it within the notebook. There is no strict requirement for how long your portion should be. It could be a sentence, a paragraph. However long you feel is necessary to spin your tale. The writing element of this cache is only optional. Please do at least add a signature and date as normal to keep in the spirit of Geocaching, and log it online as normal. Please also respect your fellow cachers. Add enough to push the story along, but don’t alter the story in a way that ignores or ruins the creative work of those who came before you. IE –  nothing like “And then the author couldn’t think of anything to write so everyone died. The End.” This should be a fun, but easy creative exercise. Then, make sure to date and sign/stamp as normal, either before your text or somewhere in the margins so as not to obscure your wonderful prose.

Use stealth when retrieving this cache! This is a high muggle area. If you need to, feel free to duck inside somewhere to write your tale in a covert location. Or, if your stealthiness is great enough, take a seat and ponder the great writers who have passed through UNCW’s halls. In some way, whether you write for pleasure, or as a career, or if you rarely write at all – you are continuing the grand tradition of storytelling at UNCW. Afterwards, please make sure to return the logbook to the container, so that other pens may continue the story.

If you are a visitor to campus, please follow the parking guidelines so you don't receive a citation.
