The Cache is loated ay Johnny's Well. Johnny's Well was used as a spring which provided water to passing ships from ports all over the world. The water was said to have had extordinary keeping qualites, remaining fresh over long sea voyages. It is belived the well had been named after one of the local Worimi people. In the mid 1990's the well was establisehed as seen today by Soldiers Point-Salamander Bay Tidy Towns Committee, Salamander Shores and Port Stephens Council acting in consultation with the Worimi Local Aboriginal Land Council, Port Stephens Historical Society and National Parks and Wildlife Service.

The area is kid friendly and pleanty of parking found at the top area of the boat ramp next to the hotel with only a short walk down to GZ, boat ramp and jetty. The Well is tucked away but please still reamin mindfull of Muggles as the area can get busy with fishermen and people launching boats.
