Geocache Description:

This cache is located at Binder Park Zoo, on the trail area.  There is NO entry fee to use the hiking trails, trailhead and parking is near the "Maple" picnic area.  The zoo is open M-F 9-5, Sa & Holidays 9-6, Su 11-6. The zoo season is late April to early October.  The trails are not available when the zoo is closed, or during the off season.

In 2006, I was contacted about placing some caches within the Zoo.  I jumped at the chance to put some inside, but to also put a couple out here on the hiking trails.  Between the 2011 storm damage, and subsequent tree blight that has required a lot of cutting, and the additional fact that these trails aren't the zoo's money priority, these trails are a mess.  I hiked out here to check on the old caches, and couldn't even find one stretch of trail.   I knew where the trail started from and where it should have gone, but wouldn't have found it at all had I not had the cache's coords to work with.  It's amazing how quick all those thorns take over a trail!   I eventually decided to pull all of the caches and start over with the current "trail" to work with.   The new trail is the vehicle wide tracks through the woods that the work has left.  While wider than the old trail, it isn't necessarily smoother and there are some trees down along it that you'll have to navigate.  I don't think I'd take a stroller back there, and we've taken a stroller some pretty insane places before.   A lot of up and down.  It is a hike, and not just a walk.

If you look at the trail map at the trailhead, you'll see that it was a essentially a figure 8.   This cache is at the crossover of that.  As you come down the trail, the low area to the right was the the direction coming at you, up the hill ahead of you took you further out back (the post is still over there, just lying down now) and the trail you came in on was the way out.  The trail up the hill was the section I couldn't find, what you see isn't even the worst of it!

You are lookig for a micro tube, cammoed a bit.
