Icons and Memorials
Several Historical Buildings and monuments are near this cache. A nice little stop here at the commemoration monument near where Major Mitchell camped on 3rd June 1836. Please be careful of the Highway. Parking is best from the side road or get those steps up and walk.
From the cache and looking west and then moving in a clockwise direction you will see:
Kerang Cenotaph
The wrought iron gates lead into an avenue of Roses and ultimately the cenotaph. Making this a beautiful reflective area to remember those who have served in the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved. Dedicated in April 1961 (Approx)
Kerang RSL Sub Branch Clubrooms
A German Trench Mortar is on display out the front with several monuments.
Kerang Memorial Hall
The Kerang Memorial Hall was opened on 21st September 1954. Inside the hall, honour rolls list the names of 1370 fallen and returned servicemen who fought in the Second World War, Korea, Malaya and Vietnam.
Former building of Kerang Hotel, resurrected after a devastating fire on September 7th 2013

This Hotel was one of Kerang’s 5 hotels. It stood proudly for many years until it was engulfed in flames which destroyed nearly half of the structure. For a long time, it was a burnt out shell and would have remained that way until it was transformed by a local businessman into the shop it is today. The walls inside still show the scars of the fire. The restored building can be identified with a big ‘Welcome’ sign above the door.
The Cache
Is a long thin tube with a red lid. Room for logbook. Be a tourist and the muggles won’t worry you.
Happy hunting.
