[ITA] PARROCCHIA DI SAN CARLO BORROMEO E SANTA MARTA
La Parrocchia di Bracchio è stata protagonista per molti anni del tentativo di separazione dalla chiesa madre di Mergozzo, sempre osteggiata dai parroci del capoluogo. Nel 1715 finalmente, dopo appunto numerosi tentativi e dopo aver addirittura inviato una petizione al Vescovo, la comunità di Bracchio ottenne la sospirata e da lunghi anni attesa separazione dalla chiesa di Mergozzo; dunque la chiesa di San Carlo Borromeo e Santa Marta divenne a tutti gli effetti chiesa parrocchiale.
La nuova chiesa parrocchiale, dedicata ai Santi Carlo Borromeo e Marta, venne edificata nei primi anni del 1700, nel 1708 fu aggiunto il portico antistante (pronao), nel 1723 il campanile e nel 1742 la sacrestia. Nel 1858 l’edificio fu ampliato con l'aggiunta di due navate.
Al suo interno sono presenti un ottimo organo, ben restaurato, un pregevole arredo ligneo (pulpito, coro, ciborio del fonte battesimale), affreschi del pittore Pietro Gaddia, alcune tele abbastanza pregevoli e il simulacro in cera del Bambino (del 1796) in un’urna d’argento.
Oltre alla festa di san Carlo, che si tiene il 4 novembre, la prima domenica dopo l’Epifania viene celebrata la festa del “Bambino”: in questa occasione si svolge una processione con il Ginostro (ramoscello decorato con fiori o rami sempreverdi), portato da una giovane che rimane segreta fino al giorno della festa e che porta in dono alla Chiesa una focaccia dolce.

For several years, the parish church of Bracchio has been the protagonist of the attempt to detach from its mother church in Mergozzo, whose vicars always opposed this resolution. In 1715, after many struggles and even a petition sent to the bishop, the people of Bracchio eventually achieved the long coveted parting from the church in Mergozzo; in this way, the church devoted to the Saints Carlo Borromeo and Marta became a parish church in all respects.
The church was built in the early 1700s; in 1708, the porch (pronaos) was added in front, the bell tower in 1723 and the sacristy in 1742. In 1858, the building was expanded by adding two naves.
An beautiful well-restored pipe organ, fine wooden furniture (pulpit, choir and ciborium of the baptismal font), frescos by the painter Pietro Gaddia, some pretty valuabel paintings and a wax simulacrum of Baby Jesus in a silver urn (1796), all find their place inside the church.
Apart from the celebration of saint Carlo on November 4th, the first Sunday after the Epiphany is the turn of Baby Jesus: on this occasion, the Ginostro (a twig adorned with flowers or evergreen branches) is carried by a young woman, whose identity is kept secret until the day of the celebration, during a procession, when she also brings a sweet flat bread as a gift to the Church.
