Long Lake Provincial Park is larger in area than peninsular Halifax, yet it is minutes from the Armdale Roundabout. The lake is surrounded by wetlands and several types of forest (hardwood, boreal and mixed). This area has long been a favourite destination for swimmers, hikers, mountain bikers, paddlers, XC skiers, dog walkers and birders. It has also been popular with geocachers from the early days of the sport. This area once had several quarries, a homestead and acted as a water supply for Halifax. It became a provincial park in 1980.
The new trail system, which opened on Earth Day 2016, has opened up the northeast side of the park to casual walkers, baby strollers and bicyclists who prefer nice gravel trails.
You may park at the official lot indicated (where there are washrooms) or you may park on Peter Saulnier Drive for a shorter walk to this cache.
