CLAY PIT VIEWS
The clay pit is once was an area to mine clay for use in bricks and pottery to feed the rapidly developing areas of Creswick and Ballarat during and after the gold rush era.
Today however this clay pit is more well known for recreational 4WD and Trail Bike Enthusiasts who use the challenging terrain to test their skills.
There is lots of interesting formations of clay and the colors of the different sections of the pit can be quite striking especially during dusk
Access can be achieved either by either of the following ways:
- From the East via Slaty Creek Rd - The track can get rough on the way in so use common sense and pull over and walk into the GZ if you need to.
- From the west along the Great Dividing Trail / Wallaby Track. This way in is really for 4WD or 2WD with really good ground clearance. However this will give much easier access to the GZ.
From the GZ you can be afforded some of the best views of the Clay Pit area.
