Geocache Description:

This cache is part of a combined effort by Richmond and Hampton Roads geocachers to place geocaches along the Virginia Capitol Trail.

The transportation committee would like to draw your attention to the concrete right-of-way marker placed by the Virginia Department of Highways about 25' west of this survey stick, past the tall stump, enshrouded in poison ivy.  You can see it through the greenery. Were you able to get up to it, you'd see the letters "VDH" stamped into the top of it. Although the working group has conducted numerous google searches on the topic, we nevertheless have very little knowledge of the history, intent, and catalogued population of such right of way markers.

We, the VCT Working Group, establish this geocaching page as a VCT VDH WIKI (what I know is...) page for geocachers to comment on their experiences with VDH or VDHT concrete markers.  Cachers are encouraged to provide links to any authoritative literature, cite oral histories, provide diaries of their own concrete marker experiences, or write inspired poetry on the topic.  We will interpret "TFTC" logs collectively as "Wow!  What an eye-opening introducting to ubiquitous, but slowly eroding, Virginia infrastructure!"

Remember what Chuck Kilpatrick, ex officio member of the Transportation Working Group, used to say "Leftie, innie. Rightie, outie."
