Un paese diviso a metà
Il comune di Gambellara, posto al confine tra le provincie di Verona e Vicenza è stato storia di dispute tra queste due città che se lo sono contese nei secoli.
Dapprima appartenente ai Vescovi di Vicenza, durante la dominazione degli Scaligeri (1311 – 1387) fu annessa al territorio di Verona per poi essere restituita a Vicenza nel 1390.
Nel 1404 la Repubblica di Venezia ritenne di ovviare alle continue contese per questioni di proprietà dividendo il paese ed il territorio circostante in due frazioni distinte: Gambellara Veronese e Gambellara Vicentina, lasciando però libertà agli abitanti di rivolgersi al foro giudiziario sia dell’una che dell’altra città.
Fu sotto il dominio austriaco, per volontà dell’Imperatore Francesco Giuseppe, che con Decreto del 23 marzo 1858 i due comuni vennero definitivamente riuniti con il nome definitivo di Gambellara.

Si trova a pochi metri dai due cippi che all’interno dell’attuale Comune indicavano la zona veronese e quella vicentina.

The town of Gambellara, located on the border between the provinces of Verona and Vicenza, was the subject of disputes between these two cities for many centuries.
First belonging to the Bishops of Vicenza, during the rule of the Scaligeri (1311 - 1387) was annexed to the territory of Verona to be returned at Vicenza in 1390.
In 1404 the Republic of Venice considered to mitigate the continuous strife for property issues, dividing the country and the surrounding territory into two distinct fractions: Gambellara Veronese and Gambellara Vicentina, while leaving freedom to the residents to contact the place of jurisdiction of the one or the other city.
It was under Austrian rule, by Emperor Franz Joseph, who by the Decree of 23 March 1858 the two municipalities were finally reunited with the final name of Gambellara.

It is located a few meters from the two stones that within the current town indicated the border that divided Verona and Vicenza area.
