If an invasion came, the quiet meadows and peaceful villages around this area would have been the scene of fighting on an unimaginable scale.
If the GHQ line was breached, there would have been little hope for Great Britain. Luckily, the brave men of the Home Guard would have been there to stem the invasion.
Known as the Dad's Army, these were the men who stayed behind as the final barrier against invasion.
There are 13 pill boxes in a walk of about 5 miles which formed part of the General Headquarters Line. There is more information on boards near some of the pill boxes that you will past.
