The cache can be accessed by following the Bloubos Trail (Blue on Map). A short distance after passing the Stargate, if approaching from the main parking you will notice another path heading up the mountain. Who is up for the "King Of The Hill Challenge"? Goal - Run to the top of the hill as fast as possible .
The 650ha Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve, just 11km south of downtown Johannesburg, is an oasis of calm amid the bustle of the city. Among the largest nature reserves in the Johannesburg metropolitan area, Klipriviersberg (meaning “stone river mountain”) was proclaimed in 1984 to preserve the area’s rich biodiversity and archaeological sites.
The reserve is home to more than 600 plant and 150 bird species. Zebra, red hartebeest, black wildebeest, blesbok, duiker, springbok and mountain reedbuck roam freely in the reserve.
For a copy of the trails in the reserve, you can access the map HERE.
Reason for 3 Rating:
Although the main approach from either entrance is relatively flat, the last 350m to GZ is particularly challenging. This last climb sees you gain +/- 60m elevation in just over 350m. The rocky climb with a gradient of 17% would be considered to be extreme in most sporting activities. The cache will not be easily spotted either, and the hint might point you in the right direction. Don't forget your "Magnetic Tool" to retrieve this one from it's hiding spot.
