The cache is the first of my caches that you will find hidden along the main trail (Bloubos Trail). Take a bit of a break at this watering hole and enjoy the shade provided by the over hanging acacia tree. My series of caches placed in the reserve, will take you along a route of just under 10km, this is the route I run on almost a daily basis.
The 650ha Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve, just 11km south of downtown Johannesburg, is an oasis of calm amid the bustle of the city. Among the largest nature reserves in the Johannesburg metropolitan area, Klipriviersberg (meaning “stone river mountain”) was proclaimed in 1984 to preserve the area’s rich biodiversity and archaeological sites.
The reserve is home to more than 600 plant and 150 bird species. Zebra, red hartebeest, black wildebeest, blesbok, duiker, springbok and mountain reedbuck roam freely in the reserve.
For a copy of the trails in the reserve, you can access the map HERE.
Reason for 2/2.5 Rating:
The trail to the cache is along a pretty flat trail that has a total elevation gain of +/- 10m. The path is clearly marked and GZ is just short of 2km from the main entrance. This is another one of the caches which is designed to fit into the surroundings. I have replaced the original container with anew one due to the cahe being muggled often. Hopefully the newly camouflaged container will help in this one not getting muggled..
