Geocache Description:

This is the third cache in the Obscure Morris Township Preserves Series. (See below for all.)

The Jockey Hollow Top Preserve is a little-know preserve owned and maintained by Morris Township. Although the name might suggest otherwise, it is NOT part of the Jockey Hollow which comprises part of the Morristown National Historical Park. The park is fairly young, being opened only in 2009. The preserve offers a few trails as well as various exercise stations if you feel so inclined to work on your fitness.

Park at the waypoint, which is a cul-de-sac at the end of Rolling Hill Drive. The trailhead is right there and is clearly marked. You will start on the White/Yellow Trail then stay right to go into the Yellow Trail. When you pass the Youth Camping Area on your left (all the picnic tables) look to the right for the red blaze marking the beginning of the Red Trail (It also helps to consult the trail map). It may take a few seconds to locate the blaze, but it's there. Take the Red Trail down a bit as far as it goes before it turns sharply left. Keep an eye out for the red blazes as this trail is the rebel of the group and is less defined. At this point you are near the cache and can consult the spoiler pic in the photo gallery to help you out if you wish. Cache is an ammo can.

Views here are very scenic (there's a winter overlook point which is on the map), however they are obscured when there are leaves on the trees. Either way, it's an enjoyable little hike and area. If you have time, walk a little downhill from the cache and check out the ruins of what I believe is an old pumphouse and the picturesque stream.

Click here for a trail map of the preserve. (If it does not load in the app, look in the photo gallery or go to the listing on Geocaching.com.)
