This location is part of Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site which is focused mostly on the Erie Canal but also on Fort Hunter and the Lower Castle Mohawk Village from the colonial era.
The waterways of the Schoharie Creek and Mohawk River have long been essential to communication and travel in the region – going back thousands of years. The Erie Canal transported not just cargo and people, but ideas as well.
