This is Wiradjuri Park. Wirajuri is the largest Aboriginal Country in New South Wales, stretchign from the Blue Mountains in the East, to Hay in the west, and from Nyngan in the North to Albury in the South. The people in the Dubbo region are known as the Tubba-gah. This park is dedicated to the first residents here. Within this park you can find a small example of the grinding grooves at Terramungamine Reserve, evidence of occupation of the land in the area before John Oxley and the like came through.
The park also has a few picnic tables, an ampitheatre and a pontoon. I like to drop my feet in over the edge of the pontoon and watch the little fry swim around them. There is fairly good fishing in the area. This river has (in order of abundance) Yabbies, Shrimp, Carp, Yella Belly, and Murray Cod.
There are great plans for this park that can be found online. I've watched it slooooowly evolve toward this plan. Can't wait to see it completed.
Another point of interest regarding the Wiradjuri people - a couple of months ago the local council started replacing street signs with Wiradjuri translations on them. If you cross the river and highway from here, you'll find a couple down the road behind the inforamtion centre.
