Reginald C. Atkinson was born on March 9, 1948. He was Mayor of Hartney, Manitoba from 1981 to 1989 and owned a small farming implements business in the same community. He moved to Brandon in 1994. He was elected Mayor of Brandon in a by-election in 1997 after the previous Mayor (Rick Borotsik) was elected to the House of Commons. During Reg's term as Mayor Maple Leaf Foods announced that they had selected Brandon as their home to a new a hog processing plant.
