Le rocher Sentinelle -
Un tafonu d’un genre particulier
Les montagnes de l’Alta Rocca en Corse présentent de nombreuses formations rocheuses impressionnantes. L’une d’elles se trouve dans la région de la célèbre cascade de Piscia di Ghjaddu.

Géologie
Plus connue sous le nom de rocher Sentinelle, la formation rocheuse est l’exemple parfait de la naissance d’un
tafonu (tafoni au pluriel ; du corse pietra tafunata "une cavité arrondie"). Il s’agit d’une cavité créée par érosion chimique. Durant ce processus, le lixiviat infiltré dans la roche s’évapore et renvoie ses éléments solubles à la surface. Ainsi se forment des cavités au fur et à mesure, à la manière d’une piqûre de corrosion, de l’intérieur vers l’extérieur. Les cavités rappellent vaguement les alvéoles d’une ruche et peuvent atteindre un diamètre allant de quelques centimètres à un demi-mètre. (source : wikipedia.de ; panneau d’information sur place)
Accès
A partir du parking payant, suivez les repères jaunes / les panneaux jaunes. Le chemin aller s’étend sur environ 2,5 km à travers un étrange paysage rocheux et boisé. On arrive au rocher Sentinelle après environ 45 minutes. Le même chemin est emprunté pour l’aller et le retour.

- Il existe des tafoni dans le monde entier en différents types de roche, par exemple en grès, en granit, en gneiss, en calcaire, en lave et en tuf. Rendez-vous au rocher Sentinelle et déterminez le type de roche auquel il appartient.
- Observez attentivement la surface du rocher Sentinelle. Quelle est sa texture et à quoi la reconnait-on?
- Quelle est la taille du tafonu (le trou) à peu près?
- A quelle altitude le rocher Sentinelle se trouve-t-il?

Im Alta Rocca Gebirge Korsikas kann man viele beeindruckende Gesteinsformationen sehen. Eine davon befindet sich im Gebiet des berühmten Wasserfalls „Piscia di Ghjaddu“.

Die als „Wächterstein“ bekannte Gesteinsformation ist ein außergewöhnliches Beispiel für die Entstehung eines
Tafone (Plural Tafoni; aus dem Korsischen, vgl. pietra tafunata „durchlöcherter Stein“). Als Tafoni bezeichnet man Hohlräume, die durch chemische Verwitterung entstehen. Eindringendes Sickerwasser verdunstet im Gestein und gibt seine löslichen Inhalte an der Oberfläche ab. So entstehen nach und nach Hohlräume in einer Art „Lochfraß“ von innen nach außen. Die Hohlräume erinnern entfernt an Bienenwaben und können einen Durchmesser von wenigen Zentimetern bis über einen halben Meter erreichen. (Quellen: wikipedia.de; Informationstafel vor Ort)
Zugang
Folge vom gebührenpflichtigen Parkplatz der gelben Markierung/ den gelben Tafeln. Die einfache Wegstrecke beträgt ca. 2,5 km durch eine bizarre Felsen- und Baumlandschaft. Man erreicht den Wächterstein nach ca. 45 Minuten. Hin- und Rückweg sind identisch.
Aufgaben
- Auf der Informationstafel ist neben Wasser ein weiterer Faktor für die Entstehung von Tafoni benannt. Welcher ist das?
- Tafoni gibt es weltweit in verschiedenen Gesteinsarten, z.B. Sandstein, Granit, Gneis, Kalkstein, Lava und Tuff. Gehe zum Wächterstein und untersuche aus welchem Gestein er besteht.
- Schau Dir die Oberfläche des Wächtersteins genauer an. Wie fühlt sie sich an und was kann man erkennen?
- Wie groß ist der Tafone (das Loch) im Wächterstein etwa?
- Auf welcher Höhe über dem Meer befindet sich der Wächterstein?
- Optional: Mache ein Foto oder eine Skizze vor Ort und füge es Deinem Logeintrag hinzu.

Known as "Sentinel Rock", this rock formation is an exceptional example of the origin of a
Tafone (Plural Tafoni; from the Corsican, see pietra tafunata "perforated stone"). Tafoni are cavities caused by chemical weathering. Penetrating leachate evaporated in rocks and deliver its soluble content at the surface. So gradually creates cavities in a kind of "pitting" from the inside tot he outside. Access
Coming from the billable parking area follow the yellow marker/ yellow panels. The single way is about 2.5 km through a bizarre rock and tree landscape. You can reach the Sentinel Rock after about 45 minutes. The way back is identically.
