Geocache Description:

Dust off your shoulder pads, puffball skirts, parka jackets and neon-coloured linen suits (delete according to gender and preferences ;-) ) and take a trip to the decade that taste forgot! Re-visit a time when a micro was a state-of-the-art computer, the only mystery was "who shot JR?", and a film pot was a camera accessory!

Beachie loves 1980s

Beachie ❤ 1980s is a series of caches themed around the 1980s, located around Peterborough City Centre. The caches are intended to provide a variety of hides and types, so there'll be something for everyone.

Each cache is related to a different 1980s thing pertinent to a different year of the decade. We've tried to tie the themes in to the location where we can. In addition, there are some bonus caches. These aren't bonus caches in the geocaching sense of information to find one cache contained within other caches. They're just extra caches we added as we ended up with more ideas than years in the decade.

All the caches in the series are "stand-alone" in that they don't require you to complete any others. You can do them all in one sitting or just dip in and do one or two at a time as your time permits. You also don't need to do them in chronological or any other particular order - do them in whatever order works for you.

This one

Gothic Rock is a sub-genre of the post-punk boom which started out originally in the late 1970s in the UK. Gothic music was typically darker in tone and with more introspective and romantic lyrics than the general post-punk theme, often with literary and poetic themes.

Examples of the genre include Siouxsee & the Banshees, Bauhaus and The Cure. As time went on, other bands emerged such as Cocteau Twins, Sisters of Mercy, the Birthday Party, and All About Eve.

In terms of fashion, gothic bands incorporated influences from 19th-century Gothic literature along with horror films. Gothic fashions within the subculture range from androgynous, Victorian, some Renaissance and medieval-style attire, or combinations of the above, most often with black clothing, makeup and hair. Gothic singers used to crimp their hair in the 1980s, as did the fans.

The influence of Goth was felt in subsequent decades in Marilyn Manson, the Manic Street Preachers, PJ Harvey and Nine Inch Nails.

We've brought you to this location because until not so very long ago, the city's main hospital was close by. So if you had an illness, this is where you'd go for "the Cure" (badoom tish etc)

It aint what you do, its the way that you do it...

As above, although the cache has "bonus" in the title, this isn't a bonus cache requiring information from other caches, this cache is standalone and at the published co-ordinates.

Is there something I should know?

You're looking for a disguised container in plain sight.

Please park considerately, safely and legally.

Please make an educated decision about the level of muggle activity when you arrive at GZ, and if you find it's just too muggly, we'd suggest you return another time - we'd rather you protected the cache. Thank you.
