[EN] Marpod - first attested in 1349. In the13th century a Romanesque basilica was built here, from which only one capital embedded in the firt pillar of the south part of the nave remained. The church devoted to Saint Mary was attested in 1402. From the Gothic church buit here at an unknown date, only the polygonal choir supported by buttresses on the outside can still be seen. Massive fortification works began towards the end of the 15th century and the beginning of the 16th century. The actual hall with the same width as the choir was built at the end of the 18th century. The central piece of the classic altar is a painting made by hans Hermann in 1926. The Baroque organ is the work of Johannes Hahn.
[RO] Marpod este un sat in judeţul Sibiu. Prima atestare documentară - un act emis de Episcopia catolică a Transilvaniei în anul 1349.
Biserica a fost iniţial o bazilică romanică din sec. 13, fortificată în sec.16. Prima referire despre o biserică catolică în Marpod – biserica Sfânta Fecioară Maria – datează din 1402. În 1670 se construieşte pe fundamentul vechi al bisericii noua clădire de biserică, mai mare, sub forma unei nave, lungă de 20 de metri şi lată de 8 metri. Corul este adăugat ulterior. Între anii 1795 şi 1798 se construieşte noul turn cu clopote. Ceasul este montat la turn în 1799, având un singur arătator ce sărea din 5 în 5 minute la cifra următoare. În 1817 este montată orga de Samuel Maetz, iar în 1841 se instalează pe turn un paratrăsnet. Biserica evanghelică din Marpod a primit tabloul pictat în 1926 de Hans Hermann, artist emerit din Sibiu, tablou adăugat altarului.
