This is the second of a series of geocaches to take you to sites of interesting tidbits related to Great Camp Sagamore. Take a trail map from the gift shop (N43 45.860, W074 37.805) and use the special hole punch in the cache to prove that you have found each of the caches. PLEASE leave the hole punch in the cache.
N 43 46.561, W 74 37.709 are the real coordinates! My GPS jumped around a lot here so just check out the environs and you'll find the cache. If children are with you, keep them safe! Great Camp Sagamore is a national historic landmark where the Alfred Vanderbilt family lived and played to escape New York City in the summertime. Built by William West Durant, the main building is a rustic lodge built in the Swiss style out of native stone and logs. Tours are available from the chalet--follow the sign to the Tour Entrance. Please see greatcampsagamore.org for specifics. The powerhouse, built in 1916, provided energy for the whole Lower Complex.
