Geocache Description:

On May 10th, 1943 eighteen people died when a seamine exploded near Annagry in the Donegal Gaeltacht. Another victim died from wounds shortly after.

The mine had been spotted at Ballymanus Beach hours before it exploded and reported to Gardai. They failed to seal the area off as was protocol.

The explosion was heard as far away as Letterkenny.

This geocache is located near the momument which was erected in memory of those who died.

After parking at the Mullaghderg Beach car park, you will see a sign pointing towards the location of the Ballymanus mine disaster. Follow the marked trail for around 500m.

Once you are at the monument, walk to your right towards Mount Errigal for just a few meters more. The cache is a small black film canister and is hidden right at the edge of the grass.
