Geocache Description:

I never knew this hidden gem was here... It doesn't show up on my maps.  It will be great if we can hide caches INSIDE the park.  For now though, I will just get you close to it.

Welcome to the Iron Ore Belt Access of the Haw River State Park. With over 1300 acres in Guilford and Rockingham Counties, Haw River State Park is nestled along the Haw River corridor, near the headwaters of the river and offers a 3.2 mile hiking trail.  The Great Blue Heron loop trail offers beautiful wetlands, flood plain forests as well as mixed hardwood forests.  There are picnic tables along the trail and at the trailhead as well as toilet facilities.  The future plans call for this to be a key destination on the state's Mountains-to-Sea Trail.

The park is open 7 days a week (closed on Christmas Day) subject to the following schedule:

November - February: 8am - 6pm

March, April, May September and October: 8am - 8pm

June - August: 8am - 9pm
