Only a few hearty souls had settled in Cummings Valley by the early 1900s. It wasn’t until the availability of groundwater, and the construction of the Tehachapi Institution for Women in 1932 before the area slowly began to grow. By the 50s paved roads had reached the valley, but still only a few large farms and ranches, separated by endless strands of barbed wire, existed out here. What the roads did do was open the area up to tourist and in time real estate speculators. By the early seventies Stallion Springs had all been laid out, and was being developed. As of the last census, our little community boasted a population of almost 2,500 hearty souls. Happy hunting
