Decoding the $1 Bill (Part 1)

The Federal Reserve Seal can be found on the front of the $1 bill in the middle of the left hand side. The seal was redesigned in 1996 and replaced the letter of the bank that printed the note which was featured in earlier designs. Below the seal you will find the Federal Reserve District letter and the serial number. You can identify where a bill was made from two ways, the first is that in front of the serial number (located on the left hand side below the federal reserve seal) you will see a letter, that letter corresponds with where the bill was printed. You can also find the the corresponding number with where the bill was printed in four places on the note.
The following table is a handy reference for the bank codes:

Boston A 1
New York B 2
Philadelphia C 3
Cleveland D 4
Richmond E 5
Atlanta F 6
Chicago G 7
St. Louis H 8
Minneapolis I 9
Kansas City J 10
Dallas K 11
San Francisco L 12

For Example:

If you look in the four corners of the bill you will see the number 5 and before the serial number you will see the letter E, which means this bill was printed in Richmond, Virginia.
(This bill predates 1996 as you can tell from the missing Federal Reserve Seal which is replaced here by the letter E. I choose this bill because of where it was printed.)

There is $1.06 for the ftf, just enough to get you one thing!

We hope you learned something and happy hunting!
