Geocache Description:

A Traditional Cache placed in a waterproof camouflage drawstring bag with room for swappables and trackables. On your way to A High on The Low you will pass through Chelmorton, a classic White Peak Limestone village in stunning upland scenery and is one of the highest villages not only in Derbyshire but all of England.

Built along a single street running up to the Church of St John the Baptist with its Spire topped by a weather vane in the shape of a Locust, the Church stands at 1,209ft above sea level and to the side of the church is Chelmorton Low (low in the Peak perversely signifies a height).  This is where your journey begins!

There are 2 Bridleway signs, be sure to take the one on your left and you will see the gated entrance, which on rainy days can be pretty muddy on both sides so please wear suitable footwear and watch out for stingers!  Please ensure you close the gate behind you as the field is used in rotation for Cattle and Sheep and any dogs must be kept on a lead especially during lambing season.

Chelmorton Low rises to 1,463ft and as you can imagine, once at GZ on a clear day, there is some stunning scenery to be seen so make sure you don't forget your camera!

A little of known history is that of a Bronze Age Burial Mound which can be found on the summit of Chelmorton Low giving clear evidence to early human habitation in the area.  There is no doubt that the earliest settlers made their homes on the banks of the stream which is known by the name of Illy Willy Water which is supplied by a spring rising on the hill and providing a constant source of pure water.  This stands today and well worth a look and of course more photos, the co-ords for the spring are N 53° 13.795 W 001° 49.722 so not far from your starting point!

To start with, it's a pretty steep climb to the Cache site but soon levels out a bit but it's well worth it.  It's the sort of place you want to pull out a blanket and eat your lunch, it's so peaceful up there.....enjoy!

FTF prize! A container with contents :)

Well done to Rammy1 for FTF!! :)
