Geocache Description:


This cache is part of the 'Spooked' series, a series of caches at creepy feeling or supposedly haunted places. Obviously you don't need to believe in ghosts to be able to enjoy the caches.

Little John 

Location: Hathersage - Churchyard
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Still present
Further Comments: The grave of one of Robin Hood's merry men, Little John, is said to be in this place of rest - the area where the body lies is three meters long. His longbow was once on display in the church, but was removed in 1729.

 

Little John's Femur 

Location: Hathersage - Hathersage Hall
Type: Curse
Date / Time: Circa 1784
Further Comments: James Shuttleworth is said to have dug up the nearby grave containing the remains of Little John, removing a femur measuring 72 centimetres in length. However, he was struck by misfortune soon after, which vanished after he reburied the bone.

 

White Woman 

Location: Hathersage - Highlow Hall
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Early twentieth century
Further Comments: A farmer reported seeing this pale spectre on several moonlit nights crossing the stable yard - he would always tip his cap to her! The ghost was also observed entering the front door in the hall itself and drifting up the staircase. The rustling of her dress could be heard moving down corridors at night. Another phantom reported here is the ghost of a mason who was caught playing dice instead of working - he was executed!

 

Pale Woman 

Location: Hathersage - Moorseats Hall
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1940s, 1970s
Further Comments: This white spectral woman moves around the orchard, and is said to take the form of whoever is currently living in the hall. Another phantom haunts a bedroom, and asks guests from the darkness whether everything is okay.

 

Pale Horse 

Location: Hathersage - Sicklehome Hollow, between Hathersage and Bamford
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A phantom white horse is said to roam the area, but is only visible to those with second sight.

 

White Lady 

Location: Hathersage - Vicarage
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 28 February (reoccurring)
Further Comments: Even though the phantom white lady has not been observed for around one hundred years, she still opens a single door on one night per annum.

the horses feet might s_ _ _p the ground, the cache is hidden near something that sound like that word.

The Puzzle

You will need to search online to find the answers, the cache is hidden at: N053 AB.CDE W001 FG.HIJ. You DO NOT need to visit the locations as all the answers can be found online.

A= number of letters in the name of the lane North Lees farm is near divided by 3.

B= 3rd digit oif the year the first settlement on the sight of north lees hall was recorded.

C= the sum of the 3rd and the last digit major work of the year restoration by Butterfield happened at st Michael and all angels church..

D= ((A + C) - (2 x I)) + 1

E= The sum of the digits of the population of Hathersage in 2011 take away 3.

F= The first digit of the post code of Hathersage.

G= The sum of the digits of the number of acres of the grounds of Brookfield Manor x 2.

H= The number of the month in 2015 that NorthLees Hall tower house became managed by the authority, (eg. November is the 11th month and so it = 11)

I= A- (1+J)

J= The number of miles from hathersage station to Sheffield Station (use Google Maps and use the 'measure distance' tool. Make sure that the dots on each end are bang on the station symbols. To work out the answer add the two numbers on the right of the decimal point together and then take away the answer you get from the digit to the left of the decimal point. (HINT= the digit on the far right of the decimal point is the same as C ÷ F)

Please note that the final GZ is not wheelchair accessible and is on a steep slope. Pleae be careful when searching at GZ. thankyou.

The Cache

The cache is a small clip lock container which is hidden within a 2 mile radius of the given co-ords. There is no pen so please bring your own, the cache has room for 2 small travelbugs / coins. Please replace as found and well hidden, beware of ants nests as I came across one when hiding the cache.
