I've recently completed Davyduck's Spirit Lake Massacre Challenge Cache (which I heartily recommend), and so the lives of travelers in the past are fresh in my mind. As I stand in this location, if I ignore all the buildings and other man-made structures, I can imagine that the shore of the lake here would have been an easy place to beach or launch a canoe, in preparation of a portage to West Lake Okoboji, or to head overland. These strips of land between the lakes have been the byways of travelers for centuries. Now, many visit this area in search of fun and adventure. But things were hard for the first travelers here. Winters were cold, you only ate what you foraged for, grew or killed. And, as we're reminded by the stories of many killed in the area, there were dangers from other humans. Life was hard then. I'm grateful for the many conveniences and luxuries we now enjoy, and thankful for those who went before to bring here what we now often take for granted. So DO enjoy!
The cache is fairly straightforward. It'll take some looking, but it should be there.
Cheers!
