Geocache Description:

Follow the story and look for the reflective tacks to find Owl's lair. This was initially the 2016 Tri-Cities Geocoin Challenge Night/Letterbox Hybrid.

A couple of things before you take off...

  • Park Hours are 5am-11pm
  • This is a night cache and a letterbox: you get the best of both worlds! This night cache uses reflectors to guide you through to the geocache: you will need a flashlight to follow them from the starting point to the cache. A Letterbox contains a stamp that is to remain in the cache, you can use it to record your visit and use your personal stamp on the cache's logbook.
  • We recommend to do the cache at night, but it should be doable - although more difficult - at daytime
  • This was initially the 2016 Tri-Cities Geocoin Challenge Night/Letterbox Hybrid.

Have fun and be safe!

Wise owl's night stroll

Wise owl loves to take a stroll from tree to tree at dusk. Follow him around the park all the way to his home…

“Oh! You are by the flag pole? It is always where I start my stroll, towards the south. You will very soon see my two eyes glowing in the shadow of one of the trees. Continue that way until you reach the end of the curb. Within 30 feet, there is a black dog on a leash (hint: approximately at 2 o’clock). If you face it, you will face me (and my eyes…) in a nearby tree: follow me all the way to the river.

Just before you reach a virtual roundabout, I will be facing you, do not crash on the benches – but you can take a couple minutes there to enjoy the dusk light on the river before continuing on your way :). From where you entered the roundabout, take the second exit. You should see me at your left after you exit. You will spot me here and there along your way, can you spot me? If you did not, just remember it is too late to take a bath, you just want to enjoy the illuminated terrace.

This is a too well-lit and exposed spot for an owl, so you will be on your own here. Continue on, looking for information until you find some about the Hanford Reach: if you look carefully to your left, I am here in the penumbra of a mini-tree. Do you see the Y-shaped tree right behind? Look in between the branches of the Y and you will see my glowing eyes. Let them guide you from tree to tree through the dark! Be sure to look around carefully, as I will show you which direction to go.

Now I must leave you for a moment, as the next part will again be too open for me. Off in the distance you will see a small built structure with writing on the top. Walk to this historic structure and then head back towards the river.

Right after getting a snack, head south. Do not get distracted, neither by children nor by adults at play: stay on your way, I will be around. Be sure to follow me well when it gets darker again. You are close to your destination when you see the asphalt: you can spot it from across the road, a square of light in the night, but before you cross, look well for cars… and muggles!

To find your precious, look at one o'clock”
