Old Movie Drive In Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

densspot: I checked on the cache today and as the last geocacher said the cache is missing. I is. The area has grown up with weeds and brush since the cache was place and would no longer be what I call a fun find. Therefore I will let Mother Nature take over the spot and I will archive this one.

Geocache Description:

Da Cache Cows once had a gadget cache at this site but have since archieved it but left the three story bird house that housed the cache.  To find the cache now you no longer have to figure out conbinations to get at the cache.  You are looking for a small pill bottle big enough to hold just a log so BYOP.

In 1932, Richard M. Hollinghead came up with the idea of Drive-in Movies. They became popular as families could now take small children and babies to the movies without having to get a baby sitter. Teenagers with access to automobiles found drive-ins ideal for dates. The drive-in's peak in popularity came in the late 1950's and early 1960's. The decline in popularity came as real estate became expensive for a business that could run primarily only in the summer months. Widespread adoption of daylight savings time, the advent of color TV and movie rentals also had an adverse effect on the industry. The cache is located roughly on the spot of the back entrance of the old Rouman Drive-in Theater which was built sometime in the 1950's. Due to a decline in business, the drive-in here closed in 1985. Although closed and the grounds are overgrown with trees and brush, the frame of the movie screen, the projection building, many of the speaker posts and some of the outer fence remains. There are pictures of these remains in the Picture Gallery on this cache page. Permission to place this cache here was granted by George Rouman. The cache is on private property so please respect the property. As always please put the cache back how you found it so the next cacher has the same fun as you.
