A cache at the monument high above Almyros Bay.
Looking out over the bay on a bright sunny day it's hard to believe this island has been the victim of many occupations. This monument marks the spot of a significant gathering between the Greek government and the Cretan revolutionaries which eventually led to the end of the Turkish occupation and the unification of Crete with Greece. The local community placed this plaque in recognition of all those involved and so that young people are reminded of their history and heritage. It is a very peaceful and beautiful spot these days with stunning views over the surrounding areas. The D/T rating assumes you park at the given parking coordinates which are about 4km up a very good gravel road - our Honda Jazz got there with no problems. The cache is a small box and at the time of placement contained a log book, pencil and sharpener and a few trinkets.
