Thomas Jefferson Rollins Nature Area is a 104 acre conservation area. It was donated to the city of Poquoson in 2013 by the heirs of the Thomas Jefferson Rollins Estate, and can be traced back to ancestors who received the land as part of a kings grant in the 1600s.
The property is the original landing area of the first English settlers to what would eventually become Poquoson. A wharf was constructed in the 1800s and became a bustling port for seafood and produce. The area was even the site of a Civil War skirmish where the Union Navy sunk six Confederate schooners. During the 1900s the property continued to function as a commercial hub for the delivery of goods and commercial oystermen.
Today you can launch your vessel at the public landing, enjoy lunch in the shaded picnic area, and maybe catch an impromptu air show from the jets stationed across the river at Langley AFB.
Cache is large enough for small items and TB, but please BYOP. On nice days and weekends, extreme stealth may be required. Please replace cache in a way that it's not hanging.
