Geocache Description:

Bayhead Natural Heritage Site is a 20ha nature reserve, which protects a pocket of mangroves and coastal grassland within the Durban Bay.

Three species of Mangrove (White, Black and Red) occur within the reserve, as well as an area of coastal grassland. A number of water birds can be seen on the intertidal mudflats, although numbers have dropped over the years and you are now often more likely to spot larger numbers of plastic containers than waders. Numerous crabs can be seen scurrying around the mudflats, especially as the tide comes in and their habitat shrinks.

In winter a few Mangrove Kingfishers make the mangroves their home but they can be difficult to spot.

Facilities: Bird hide; Boardwalk through the Mangroves; Environmental Education Centre
Opening Hours: 06h00 - 18h00

I would recommend that you either do this cache in the early morning or over the weekend when the container depot is not too busy as the whole of Bayhead Road can be clogged with trucks on weekday afternoons.
