From Cabin 22, go up the Tanbark Loop Trail until you get to a fairly open area. A basin, in geography, is a large, bowl-shaped depression in the surface of the land, like a bowl in the mountain where all the water funnels down into. Big Basin and Little Basin are places like this where the water goes. Fern Gully is like a mini basin, with hills surrounding it, and when it rains the water is collected here and flows down into Scott Creek. Explore the lush foliage and observe evidence of where water often flows.
