Geocache Description:

CACHE: Burial grounds obliterated, cemetery rules do not apply. Park and grab. Shop muggles nearby.

HISTORY: The Chippewa Indians were the first real settlers here, many members of the Nipissing Tribe. Many years ago I interviewed Steve Spencer, longtime resident of Attica, born and raised. One of my topics of conversation was about Attica's cemeteries. He leaned over and said "There's one you won't find on any map", and he continued to tell me about this Indian burial ground on the southwestern corner of Youngs Road and M-21. He said it was an odd location, most of their burial grounds were closer to water, however water was very nearby. Arrowheads have been found all over Attica from Lake Pleasant to Summers Road and properties all along both M-21 and Attica Road. One of his childhood friends was working the fields at this farm and they dug up artifacts, and the more they dug, the more they realized some of those pieces weren't pottery. They started to unearth bones. In recent years a farm known to archaeologists as the Younge Site in Goodland Township was being dug up. The farmer didn't want that chaos there on his land, so he told the boys to stop digging and to hush up. Eventually it was found out that the finds were dug up again and sold. Mr. Spencer wasn't the only one who spoke of this burial ground, but he's the only one who had an actual location other than "out past the roadside park".
