Geocache Description:

Available after June 30th, 2016. My kids love learning about outer-space and space technology! This geocache is all about exploring outer-space and our own enviroment using satellite remote sensing. I have added a number of posters, post cards, pens and bookmarks that I got from the Canadian Space Agency, European Space Agency and NASA and will refill with new space stuff when I can. Believe it or not, Lethbridge is a major hot spot for remote sensing in Canada!

This geocache is located in a beautiful place by a big cottonwood tree near the Oldman River. As you look up through the tree to the sky, tens of satellites are monitoring the health of the planet every day, and a few have been doing so for the past 40+ years. This cache provides finders with Earth and space observation posters and information on the many ways in which we monitor Earth's ecosystems, disturbance (from fire, flooding), water, and ice. I have also included some extra-terrestrial posters as well and will add new items when I can. Wander down the path, past construction of the new Destination Project (science building) at the University of Lethbridge. A small (unpaved) trail will take you past choke cherry trees and down the coolie to a hole in the fence. You will see an interesting concrete building with some very nice paintings on it (I am not sure what it was used for). Follow the path along the fence (to the left) and over the storm water runoff to a couple of large cottonwood trees on either side trail. You will find the cache hidden there. Please replace items with other space and satellite or aerospace swag, if possible to keep the theme going :)
