Geocache Description:

This is a replacement for mkiger’s Shakespeare: Park cache that was archived in 2012. A new listing is required since the previous listing was archived for too long. This is the starting point for this highly recommended and fun five cache series to the top of Shakespeare Rock.

Here’s the original cache description:

Shakespeare Rock is one of my favorite spots in Tahoe. The famous promontory directly south of Glenbrook was first named in 1862. The wife of Reverend J.A. Benton, while sketching mountain backdrops, noticed a deep cut in the side of the bluff situated above Glenbrook, a pioneer settlement. On further study she saw an unusual likeness to the original Chandos portrait of William Shakespeare.

This cache is located in the area that I park. It is right next to the start of the trail to the top which is overgrown, neglected and starts from a parking lot that Does Not exist.

So I placed caches like breadcrumbs on my favorite trail to the top. I highly recommend you get all the Shakespeare caches. The entire trail is less than a mile and the elevation gain is less than 700ft. It took me two hours to place them all, but you could spend many more exploring the area. This is only the 1st of five. Follow the trail to the next Shakespeare: In a Jif.

There is room for small trade items and GC's.

Enjoy!
