Geocache Description:

This is the start or the end of a great recreational trail that goes from the Wisconsin border to Elgin, Il and beyond.  The trail is paved for most of its length, beginning south of the village of Ringwood but is crushed limestone on the northern end.  Just south of this geocache is another trail that goes west and runs through a beautiful prairie owned by the McHenry County Conservation District. That trail goes at least as far as the village of Hebron and maybe further.  The trail gets a lot of use throughout the year with bikes and joggers in the summer and snowmobiles in the winter.

The recently published caches in nearby Richmond made me realize how underutilized this trail is for geocaching.  I remember a Conservation District cache near here a few years ago but other than that it's devoid of caches until you get down to McHenry.  The parking coordinates are the closest parking to the cache and the only public access to the trail that I'm aware of on the Wisconsin side.  There are plenty of places in Illinois to access the trail if you want to walk or bike a couple miles.

While we were placing the cache my 5 year old was reminded of Jurassic Park and imagined dinosaurs everywhere.

It should be a pretty easy, kid friendly find.  Should be winter friendly as well.  It's a heavily wooded spot so beware of poison ivy and bugs.  The trail is open from dawn til dusk and the Wisconsin access point is right by private residences so please be respectfull and only cache during daylight hours.
