A quick park and grab along Barlow Road
In 1854, my ancestors, Lewis and Elizabeth Rinehart, their seven youngest children ranging in age from one to seventeen years, their married daughters Louisa Rinehart Duncan (and her husband George Duncan) and Barbara Rinehart Edwards (and her husband Thomas Edwards), and their families started from Iowa on the long trip across the plains on April 7, 1854. Lewis was elected captain of the group of 31 wagons. They arrived in Eugene, September 12, having been enroute five months and five days. Daughter Louisa gave birth near Bend, Oregon, on July 31, 1854. Can you imagine how challenging it must have been to be pregnant the whole journey? Two Rinehart sons, John and George Rinehart and their families, followed the Oregon Trail to The Dalles in 1852. Daughter Emily Jane crossed the plains in 1853 with her husband, Peter Morton, and their children. Their daughter Mary “Polly” Ann remained in Iowa with her husband and family. She was the only one of the Rinehart's 13 children not to cross the plains. Our first family reunion was held in 1903 in Summerville, OR where several of the family members settled. This cache is placed to commemorate the 109th Annual Reunion of the Rinehart Family. The reunion is being held this weekend, June 23-26, 2016 at Oral Hull Foundation in Sandy. We have held our reunion here many times and we love the location. One of our family activities at the reunion is to learn about geocaching. We hope you enjoy this cache. Thank you to Tomboygirl64 for her assistance placing it and for agreeing to maintain the cache for all to enjoy.
