Hamish and Hazel, two haggis children went to a great haggis gathering – a picnic in Aberdeen. They wandered off and as children often do but were left behind by their huge family in the confusion of packing up. Follow their adventures around Aberdeenshire as they track down their family and meet some new friends along the way. The rhymes contain a mixture of Scots and the local dialect, Doric. The day it wis endin, the Hagglets yawned
It seemed oors and oors since the busy day dawned!
Their auntie wis gaen them bosies and cuddles
Then aff they aa skipped through ferns and puddles.
They aa went for supper, and the hedgehog came too
The Hagglets were hungry and that Fergal knew
So they sat at this spot at the end of the day
The Hagglets ate heaps and then ran aff tae play
TheTeddy bears came and they aa hid great fun
And sat doon tae watch the settin sun
As the sun gaed doon, wee Hamish cried oot
“Fit are thae fluffy things flutterin aboot?”
Uncle Fergal lauched and said “Weel... that’s
“Hunner and Hunners o tiny wee bats!”
Who played til the Haggises fell in a heap
And one by one they fell fast asleep
So we’ll leave them richt here, oor far traivelled friends
Perhaps this is where their story ends?

Translation: It had been a very long day since the sun rose. A day full of adventure and Hamish and Hazel were very tired. Auntie Freda was still full of life and led them off to a nice picnic place (where you are now). They ate lots and went to play before the sun set with the teddy bears, the hedgehog and finally some little bats who lived nearby in the trees. The Haggi were so tired that they fell asleep here and this is where our story leaves them or now. Do they have more adventures to share? Only the future will tell!
