Onze eerste geocache ligt in het Savelsbos. Vlak bij de stad waan je je midden in het bos en je kunt doorlopen tot aan Mesch en de Belgische grens.
Op deze plek heeft de bliksem huisgehouden. Als de bliksem ergens inslaat, springt er tot 10 gigajoule over van wolk naar de aarde; genoeg om 10 lampen van 60 watt een halfjaar te laten branden. Toch was Moeder Natuur sterker: de boom groeit nog steeds door.
Als je iets verder naar boven loopt, kun je vanaf de natuurbank het uitzicht op Maastricht bewonderen.

Our first geocache is located in the Savelsbos. Close to town it feels like you’re in the middle of the woods. You can walk on to Mesch and the Belgian border.
Here lightning has had its play. When lightning strikes, upto 10 gigajoule jumps from the cloud to the earth; enough to light 10 bulbs of 60 watt for half a year. Mother Nature was stronger, though, the tree is still alive.
Go up a little and admire the view of Maastricht on the nature bench.
