Geocache Description:

An Airport Long Forgotten ...

Did you know that this park was once a busy international airport?  It's true!  Of course, it wasn't an airport for people--it was a busy airport for R/C hobbyists.  That's how all the trails got started--they were originally conveyor belts used to trasport all the airplane parts up the mountain. My father, Basso Sr., was the founder of the airport.  It was called, "Bassoville International Airport."  (My dad was somewhat vain.)

Of course, the airport is long gone, but you can sometimes find leftover plane parts, and signs. Some of the old timers still come up here to reminesce about their flying days.

We hosted lots of competitions, and sometimes famous people were in the grandstands.  In the photo, you can see when President Herbert Hoover visited. I even got to shake his hand! It was a day that I will never forget! The president later sent me a photo of me and him at the airport.

I liked to secretly startup other people's planes. One day, I accidentally crashed someone's plane. Man, was that guy mad! I dropped the R/C controller and ran for my life!  I got away, but I was never able to find the equipment. I wonder if it's still there?  Can you help me find it?
