The Molly Hughes Mine Trail starts at the end of the parking lot [N49 59.848 W117 22.294] at Bigelow Bay and stays mostly level across to the junction [N50 00.236 W117 22.781] with the trail leading down to the mine site.
The cache is hidden along the trail about 200 meters from the mine shaft by the lake.
Once the cache is in hand there is some more exploring that can be done in the area. The main trail continues up to a ridge where there's beautiful lake views, and a boarded up cabin. The trail continues down the other side to what looks like a sandy beach. Right near the cabin a short, steep bike trail climbs up to the Galena Trail, a railtrail that connects New Denver to Rosebery.
There's another mine shaft along the trail to the ridge. It's almost directly above the mine opening by the lake. Along the bike trail there's a sinkhole probably caused by a shaft collapse. If you turn left on the railtrail you'll soon come across another mine shaft.
