Mit 320m Länge und bis zu 50m Breite beherrscht der Markt die Stadtmitte Altenburgs
und ist einer der größten Marktplätze Deutschlands.
In seiner heutigen Anlage entspricht der Markt fast unverändert dem mittelalterlichen Stadtgrundriss.
Heute lädt der Markt mit seinen zahlreichen Geschäften zum Einkaufen und Verweilen ein.

was created under influence of Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa (1152 - 1190)
as the center of the Staufer imperial city.
With 320m length and up to 50m width the market dominates the center of Altenburg
and is one of the largest marketplaces in Germany.
In his present installation of market is almost unchanged medieval city plan.
Today, the market invites to go shopping and you can relaxing there.
