4.23. Unarchiving a Geocache

The archiving of a geocache is intended to be a permanent status. That is why only community volunteer reviewers and Geocaching HQ staff have the capability to unarchive it. This is done only in rare circumstances and only if it meets the current Geocache Listing Guidelines.

If a geocache is archived by a reviewer or staff for lack of maintenance it will not be unarchived.

Geocache Description:

This cache is, in fact, a birdhouse.

Before we get into the cache where it stands today, i would like to tell you of how it came to be.

I built this cache about four months ago, (around the middle march, 2016) out of some wood I found behind my Dad's shed. Once it was completed we (my family and I) put it into our birds cage until I had found a spot to put it. After some months our bird (Blueberry) had laid some eggs in there. I thought it would be cruel to leave the house in there only to take it out at a later date after the bird had fully moved in so I got the house out of the cage and left it outside for a little while. Cut to less then a week later when my family and I were having dinner outside. Everything was calm and nice until a snake came out of the bird-house and started roaming around the place. This caused quite a kerfuffle however it was quickly resolved. I came to realize I musn't have taken all of the eggs out of the bird-house and the snake had in fact joined us for a bite to eat, it is always polite to bring your own dish to a party. Cut to the day it was placed (the 5th of July, 2016), my Dad was up Cape-York with some of his friends from his home town and Mum was at work so we didn't have a car. We attached some rope to the house and fashioned it into a backpack then cycled our way to an unknown location up behind the recently built houses in the area whilst playing the soundtrack from Jesus Christ: Superstar on my speaker thing. On the way there we placed a small cache called 'RIP Ice-Man' which you should try to find on your way out from this cache if you haven't already (if you have time to spare). Once the bird house was put in the tree I realized that it might be placed to high in the tree for some munchkin type cachers to reach so my brother and we went back to the nearby building site dump and grabbed a bessa-block and brought it back.

Now that's over with I can tell you that the cache is located just beyond the end of the paved road (there is a little dirt road you can take however I think it would be quicker just to park your car somewhere and walk the rest of the way as it is only 40-50 metres tops). As said above there is a besa-block to stand on if you or your children can't quite reach. the cache isn't difficult to spot and there is plenty of room for swaps. There should be a pen inside but you should probably bring your own just to be safe.

I don't know much about the birds in the area however they may try to make a nest inside so be please careful when opening.

Congratulations to Doodle Bug Oz for being the first to find!

Happy caching!
